ABOUT US

History

AFARNet was developed by Professor Hylton Menz, A/Professor Cylie Williams and Professor Joshua Burns in late 2020, as a collaborative forum for foot and ankle researchers in Australia. AFARNet held its first meeting on March 31, 2021.

Structure

AFARNet is governed by an Executive Committee (with representatives from each of the university podiatry programs in Australia and universities with an active foot and ankle research program). It is co-chaired by Professor Hylton Menz (La Trobe University) and A/Professor Cylie Williams (Monash University). The Executive Committee are representative of the podiatry profession and communities they serve. This means, gender-balanced, diverse levels of experience, and includes Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander representation.

The work of AFARNet is guided by an External Advisory Committee of key stakeholders representing professional associations, consumer groups and industry. Research-active academics or clinicians are eligible to self-nominate as ordinary members (fellows), and higher degree students are eligible for membership of the Early-Career Research (ECR) Network.

Membership categories

Ordinary members (fellows) may self-nominate, and their nomination approved by the executive committee. The sole criterion for membership is being actively involved in foot and ankle research.

Early Career members may self-nominate to the Early Career Researcher Network and their nomination will need to be approved by their supervisor. The sole criterion for membership is currently undertaking postgraduate research training in a relevant foot and ankle discipline. The Early Career Researcher Network is represented at the Executive Committee by an elected chair.

Cultural safety statement
